The 14th National Conference of the Italian Association of Criminal Law Professors

The 14th National Conference of the Italian Association of Criminal Law Professors, entitled “The Principle of Culpability: Theory, Practice and Criminal Policy”, will be held in Genoa from 22 to 24 October 2026. The conference aims to explore the principle of culpability, which has been recognised by constitutional jurisprudence as a fundamental element of criminal liability and as a limit on the State’s punitive power. Almost forty years after the landmark judgments of 1988, the conference will provide an opportunity to reflect on how this principle is interpreted and applied today in legal theory, judicial practice and criminal policy-making.

Over the course of the three-day conference, a number of particularly topical issues will be addressed, including the relationship between culpability and strict liability, mistake and the foreseeability of criminal law, negligence in complex organisations and the liability of legal entities. Considerable attention will also be devoted to criminal capacity, the psychopathological aspects of criminal liability, and issues relating to juvenile delinquency. Particular emphasis will also be placed on recent reform proposals concerning medical liability and occupational safety. For further information, please consult the event flyer.
