The article “How do minority positions shape women’s routes out of crime? Intersectional perspectives on female desistance”, written by Linnéa Österman and published in Punishment & Society, is hereby presented.
Drawing on twelve qualitative interviews with women in Sweden who identify as belonging to minority groups and who are in the process of desisting from crime, the study examines how experiences of change are shaped by the intersection of gender, ethnicity, migration, criminal history, and other factors of inequality. Adopting an intersectional perspective, the author highlights how pathways out of crime do not depend solely on individual choices, but are deeply shaped by social relations and structures of recognition and exclusion.
