Milan Conflict Research Seminars

Born from the collaboration between the University of Milan, EPRAhub, and NASP, this cycle of five seminars is dedicated to the study of conflict and offers an analysis of its multiple dimensions: from legal mobilization to party violence, from criminal governance to the consequences of conflict on human development. In the coming weeks, the final three meetings will take place.
The first, on November 10, titled “Legislative Inclusion, Ethnic Power Relations, and Terrorism in Autocracies”, will feature Sara M. Polo (University of Essex), an expert on political violence, terrorism, and gender-based violence in conflict and post-conflict settings.
On November 25, Nick Barnes (University of St Andrews) will give a seminar entitled “Inside Criminalized Governance”. A scholar of criminal violence, governance, and illicit markets in Latin America – particularly Brazil – his research explores how criminal organizations exercise power and interact with local communities.
Finally, on December 1, Ana Arjona (Northwestern University) will be the guest speaker at the seminar “The Legacies of Armed Conflict on Human Development”. She is an expert on organized violence, civil wars, and state-building, and her work focuses on how armed groups shape local governance and political order in war-affected societies.
